PAWS President-Elect, John Anson, delivers stuffed "pets" to County Attorney Gary Rholes (seated) for the Childrens' Christmas Party.  Gifts were collected at the recent Board of Directors and Membership meetings, as well as under the Christmas Tree at Shelby Savings Bank.  PAWS members, standing, are Lesly Johnson, Barbara Hughes, Carole Ann Chance, John Anson, Wilma Johnson and Jim Johnson.  Gary is a PAWS member and also serves on The Shelby County Animal Shelter Planning Committee. 
 
   
 

PAWS RECEIVES EARNED SHARE OF PROCEEDS FROM 2007 WHAT-A-MELON FESTIVAL

Pet Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) members gather with Ann Bowen, Center Business Association (CBA) treasurer to receive an earned share of proceeds from the What-A-Melon Festival. Paws members participated in planning and operating the What-A-Melon Festival activities. Earned funds will be used toward the planned Shelby County animal shelter. The CBA also donated an additional $300 to PAWS, a non-profit organization.

President Lesly Johnson announced that John Anson has agreed to stand for 2008 President of PAWS. Theresa Hume will resign as Treasurer at the end of September so that she can handle her state-wide duties for VFW. Sonia Yearwood has agreed to act as interim Treasurer and stand for 2008 Treasurer. Deidra Richardson will be the Fundraising Chair and has volunteered to update and print PAWS color membership drive brochures. Ellen Daniel will assist Sandy Aigner with the2007 membership drive.

 
   
       
 

PAWS Annual Thanksgiving Collection Day a Success

A busy community took time out of their Thanksgiving Day preparations to give generously as PAWS members collected donations around the Center Square and at Brookshire Brothers on the morning of November 21.  "We collected almost $1800.00 in three hours.  People's generosity is so greatly appreciated," stated PAWS President, Lesly Johnson.  "PAWS thanks everyone who donated and this money has been tagged for our Building Fund, which will be used towards a Shelby County Animal Shelter to serve our community.  Thanks also goes to Brookshires for letting us collect there."  Members assisting, but not pictured, include Bill Campbell, Ed and Brenda Applequist and son, Cary, Mary Fausett, Polly Terry, Theresa Hume and grand-daughter, Camryn, Lee Cummings, Daniel Yarbrough, Amee Anson, Reba James, Carole Ann Chance and Jim Johnson.
