A POW/MIA Day Observance
was held at the Historic Shelby County Courthouse, Center, Texas.
This year’s honorees were four US Army WWII Japanese POWs,
Thermon D. Brittain, Sr. (Battan Death March);
Dr. Roy L. Emken (Battan Death March);
Calvin R. Hutto;
John E. Woodfin, Sr.;
and one US Army WWII German POW, Henry L. Wilburn.
All honorees have passed.
The program began at 11 am with the
National Anthem, Opening Prayer, and Pledge of Allegiance.
The VFW POW/MIA Ritual was performed by post members.
Remarks followed by Post QM on the significance of the day.
Special framed certificates were given to each family in memory of their
loved one.
The program was then adjourned outside to the veteran’s memorial.
The flags were lowered to half staff in honor of the five,
a 21 gun rifle salute was fired by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies,
and Taps closed out the program.
